Dispatch
Pension planning should start early
(October 2007)

By Malcolm Oliver, Dispatcher
The work situation remains very busy. The orders for heavy duty mechanics and crane operators remain difficult to fill. Work and training opportunities for younger members entering the construction industry continue to be very promising.

I talk to a lot of people who want to work in construction and are applying to become members. Many have worked non-union and have not had the benefit of a pension plan. They regret not trying a little harder when they were younger to obtain a plan like Local 115’s. I encourage members to talk to people they know who may be working non-union in our industry. Let them know the benefits of contributing to a Local 115 pension early in their career. They can also speak to one of our organizers about certifying the company they are working for. Contact an organizer at 604-473-5259 or 1-888-486-3115, ext. 259.

Work safely.
