Another term and continued effortsBy Brad Mackenzie My first thoughts are of YOU, the members. I would like to give all of you a very sincere vote of thanks for your support in electing me by acclamation as president of IUOE Local 115 for the next four-year term. As president, I will continue my efforts working in the best interests of the membership of this great union. It has been many years since this organization has seen employment opportunities such as we’ve had for the past three years. It is my belief that these working opportunities will continue for a number of years. Your Executive Board members and staff representatives have been extremely active and innovative in finding new avenues of employment for our membership of this Local Union as the future is changing. We no longer have the luxury of local, Canadian and US companies exclusively accepting our standard collective agreements. We have competing unions who are more than prepared to eat our lunch. We must find innovative ways to bring new employers into our Local Union as signatories to our collective agreements. It is my belief that a union will fail if it is not prepared to change its old views and move toward the future. With your continued support, this local of the International Union of Operating Engineers will seize the opportunities of the future and will continue to be a union that you and I are very proud of. With that, brothers and sisters, THINK PROUD, BE PROUD, support your Local Union in every way you can, and let’s all ORGANIZE our way into the future. Be safe, work safe and come home safe to your family tonight. |
