Haiti relief
In recent weeks we have watched the unimaginable events unfolding in the wake of the earthquake
that has devastated Haiti. While wanting to help those affected by the disaster we can't help but
reflect on how fortunate we are in Canada to have a solid infrastructure and support system.
The Local 115 Executive Board has made a $5,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to help the
disaster relief effort. We urge other labour organizations and community groups to do what they can
as well.
Operating Engineers around the world are known for their quick action as first responders when such
events occur. As heavy equipment operators, our skill sets are often required in the earliest stages of
any disaster and the infrastructure rebuilding that has to follow. It’s critical for Operating Engineers to
continue to forge partnerships with governments and relief agencies and keep them aware of the valuable
contribution we make in these situations.
